Announcement: Mission & Purpose

In 1962, a group of young women interested in serving their community and stimulating their minds while enjoying a program geared towards fun and friendships formed the Junior Women’s Club of Lakewood. Over the years, the Club’™s scope has widened but remained true to its original mission. It is a philanthropic organization that sponsors fundraisers throughout the year, with proceeds going to Lakewood organizations, the Scholarship Program, and members of our community.

In 2011, the group made a change to the name of the organization to better reflect the membership, clarify its position in the community and eliminate confusion with a perceived affiliation with Junior League.  Going forward, the Lakewood Women’s Club will continue to be an opening, welcoming group that strives to serve it’s members and it’s community.

The HUGS Foundation Receives Gift from LWC 0

HUGS Foundation President Dianne Vogt and LWC President Mary Dodge

Lakewood Women’s Club (LWC) was happy to present The HUGS Foundation with a grant check of $1500.00 at the Annual Meeting & Installation Dinner at Gatherings Kitchen on May 20, 2015. The monies were raised by LWC through various fundraising activities held throughout the year. This concludes LWC’s commitment to HUGS for the two year period of 2013-15, but the relationship with the group will continue!

Dianne Vogt started the HUGS Foundation because she saw first hand how family support is critical to long term recovery of alcoholic and chemically dependent adolescents. As a volunteer at Oakview Behavioral Health Center she saw parents coming to terms with the disease of addiction. She saw their frustration when insurance benefits had been exhausted and more treatment was still needed. She recognized how crucial it is to support them during the recovery process, AND she saw a need for a program to bridge the insurance gap and provide additional funds for those in need.

HUGS is that program. They are committed to bringing recovery to families in Northeastern Ohio, and help several families a year defray the cost of residential treatment and extended care for their chemically dependent adolescent.
